At Movement Matters in Lathlain, and across Victoria Park, Burswood, Belmont and surrounding suburbs, The Big Freeze has become a familiar part of June.
The event began in 2015 and runs each year in the lead-up to the King’s Birthday AFL match, where the Big Freeze slide takes place. In every capital city and most towns as well, you’ll find a fundraiser of some description taking place in the month of June raising money for MND research and to help fund essential care equipment for people living with Motor Neurone Disease.
Local schools, sporting clubs and community groups across our wide land, take part through Beanie days, various fundraising events and awareness activities.
Movement Matters is playing its part this year too, matching donations from our client’s dollar for dollar and by selling Big Freeze famous Beanies and socks in our clinic.
MND affects many families, and most people know someone who has been diagnosed or impacted indirectly. I personally have lost friends to this terrible disease and kicking it in the butt, is a very worth while thing to do.
A Brief Overview: What is MND?
Motor neurone disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting the motor neurons responsible for voluntary movement. As these neurons deteriorate, individuals experience:
- Progressive muscle weakness
- Loss of functional mobility
- Difficulty with speech and swallowing
- Respiratory decline
- Increased reliance on carers and assistive equipment
Cruelly, cognitive function is often preserved right to the end. At present there is no known cure, this is why every cent is a cent well spent as it funds vital research towards finding one.

Matching Our Clients Donations
Till the end of June we are asking all our clients if they would like to add a couple of dollars onto their treatment to support those living with MND and its vital research. At the end of June Movement Matters will match all money raised, dollar for dollar. All money raised will go directly to FightMND.
